Since the end of February, there has been great concern over Ukraine's peace and security. while reaffirming its position and supporting the efforts of the United Nations to find peaceful solutions
In the UNSC statement, which was drafted by Norway and Mexico, before it was presented to the meeting and was unanimously approved by the members. It was noted that there was no mention of the terms 'war', 'conflict' or 'invasion' as many Member States have called it. Russia, a permanent member of the UNSC, has used its veto to thwart efforts to endorse UNSC statements which are critical of Russia.
The statement stated that r0;The Security Council is deeply concerned about the preservation of Ukraine's peace and security. and reminds all Member States to uphold their duties under the United Nations Charter. to settle international disputes through peaceful means," and expressed support for the UN Secretary-General's efforts to find peaceful solutions.
Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General responded to the statement, stating that it "will not refrain from any effort to save life alleviate suffering and find a way of peacer1; to the problems in Ukraine.
Earlier, the Security Council had tried to vote on Russia to end its attacks on Ukraine and withdraw its troops from Ukraine immediately and unconditionally. But the resolution was rejected as Russia exercised its right to veto while China, India and the United Arab Emirates abstained.
The UNSC has 15 member states, comprising two types of membership: five permanent members, namely the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China and Russia, and 10 non-permanent members. which means voting against To veto any resolution of the meeting, it means that such resolution has not been approved by the meeting and will be rejected. Because as stated in the Charter of the United Nations UNSC decisions require the unanimous approval of all permanent members.
