South African scientists find omicron outbreaks twice as fast as delta species
The New York Times reports that South African scientists have found that the Omicron strain spreads twice as fast as the Delta strain, making it the most contagious strain of Covid-19 at the moment.
Research indicates that Omicrons spread rapidly due to their ability to spread and their ability to evade the body's immune defenses for a long time. However, it is unclear how much each contributes.
"We're still not sure what the ingredients are," said Carl Pearson, a math model designer at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, who led the study's data analysis. "It's probably less contagious than Delta."
In this mathematical analysis A team of scientists predicted the Rt value of the omicron strain. This is a measure of how quickly the infection spreads. They were then compared with the delta strain values r03;r03;and found that the omicron Rt was almost 2.5 times higher than that of the delta.

This figure does not depend on how contagious Omicron is. But it also depends on the body's ability to evade immunity.
However, these findings have not been reviewed by experts. (peer-reviewed) or published in a scientific journal.
The omicron strain was first discovered in South Africa on Nov. 23 and accounted for three-quarters of the country's new infections in a short time. South Africa reported 11,535 cases on Thursday, an increase of 35 percent from the previous day. And the proportion of tests found increased from 16.5 percent to 22.4 percent.
